First impressions
We have been in Barcelona for 3 days and so far everything about this experience has been amazing. Jet lag really took us down for the first two days but we are quickly starting to get on schedule. We planned out all of our local trips this week so that everyday after school we would have a place in Barcelona to see and enjoy. The city is amazing and all the places and food we have enjoyed has been some of the best of my life.

St. Paul's
This school is AMAZING. The school is huge and ranges from preschool to 12th grade with three buildings. Outside the students have a ton of space to play with three courts and large grassy areas. The staff at the school is primarily from the United Kingdom and everything in the school is taught in english except Catalan, Spanish, and P.E. Which leads me to my next point that the students are all fluent in at least three languages and learn math and reading in their second language. Im in a fourth grade class and absolutely love them. They are eager to learn about myself and KY as well as teach my about their culture and their school. I am looking forward to teaching them full lessons next week and seeing what more Barcelona has to offer.

Post #1- Pre departure I leave for Barcelona, Spain in less than a week! I am nervous for sure, but mostly excited. I will be teaching at St. Paul's School which is a Catholic school. I  am looking forward to meeting my 4th year students and seeing how they compare to my 4th grade students here. I have had my second and fourth grade students write letters about our culture to my students in Spain, which I am looking forward to delivering. Based off the research I've done I know the school culture will be extremely different. The difference that shocked me the most was no level 0 in the hallways.... I can't even begin to imagine how crazy their hallways must be. Also, the fact that the students at St. Paul's School are trilingual automatically makes me want be friends with them.  I think the biggest adjustment will be the time change. We will arrive Friday evening in Barcelona which will be around 3-4 a.m. our body time. Also, eating dinner late. I am a three meal gal...

St. Paul’s vs. Warren County

St. Paul’s is different in many ways but also has many similarities that shocked me.  To start these kids are trilingual and learn in their second language, English. These students have all the same subjects taught to them except they have a block of Spanish and Catalon taught to them. Most of the teachers are from England and only speak English to the students. The biggest difference here is that there are large breaks throughout the day. There is second breakfast in the morning where the students and teachers have an hour to rest and play. After two more blocks the schools has an hour and a half for lunch where the teachers have time to plan and the students have more time to play. Because of all of the break time, students seem to be able to focus better during instructional time.
